Child & Family Wellness
The Child & Family Wellness Department works to ensure Wet’suwet’en children and families remain connected to their identity, lineage, and community — wherever they reside.
Rooted in Inuk Nuat’en (Our Laws), our work strengthens House and Clan responsibilities, advances Wet’suwet’en jurisdiction over child and family wellness, and supports prevention-based, culturally grounded care systems.
Our department is guided by Wet’suwet’en governance. We are accountable to the Wet’suwet’en Wellness Working Group, comprised of both Band-elected and Hereditary Chiefs. Our work is also supported through the Tripartite Table between Wet’suwet’en, British Columbia, and Canada, and operationally strengthened by our Matriarchs Group, who guide reunification, connection, and culturally grounded prevention practices.
We lead this work through three interconnected program areas:
- Child & Family Wellness Jurisdiction (The Act, Bill C-92)
- We advance Nation-led governance and the exercise of Wet’suwet’en authority over children and families, building systems rooted in our laws and responsibilities.

- Honouring Our Ways (HOW)
- We deliver culturally grounded prevention programs, family supports, and intergenerational activities that strengthen identity, belonging, and wellness.

- Genealogy & Reconnections
- We maintain Wet’suwet’en lineage records and support individuals and families in confirming House and Clan membership and reconnecting to community.
Together, these programs ensure that Wet’suwet’en children are supported through Nation systems — culturally, legally, and relationally — in alignment with Wet’suwet’en Rights and Title.
